Customers stand with you!
Standing out on the picket line, you might feel like lots of customers are crossing the line. You might feel like they just don’t care. But inside the store, the aisles are empty while Safeway and Target parking lots are overflowing. These customers are refusing to cross the line — and they have a message of solidarity for you!

“I’m part of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association in Denver Public Schools. My daughter and I are out here because we support workers. We join picket lines, we don’t cross them. Our society is better when we work together. That means collective bargaining, that means working as a group and making sure we’re taking care of workers so that all of us can live better lives. We live right down the street, and we’ve been going out of our way to do shopping because we don’t cross picket lines. We know that every union that is strong and successful is another reason for folks to show that they can do better, that they can be better and have better working conditions and get what they need from their employers. Especially in times like right now, when we know people are struggling. We have to be stronger together. Solidarity, that’s what we need.” — Nathan

I was planning on going in before school, but then I was like, “No, I’m not.” I skipped it because I want to support these workers. They’re not being paid enough to live in Denver with the housing prices. It’s important for that to happen, so that’s why I came out here today. “I just came to get some groceries and then I saw that all the workers were on strike and they asked me to shop somewhere else today to support workers. I support workers, so I’m gonna go somewhere else!”

“I’m a retiree from King Soopers for 20 years, and I’m here to support my fellow workers. I went through two strikes at King Soopers. I’m out here letting them know that I’m supporting them. There’s other places, but I miss being able to go into King Soopers and shop. But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Stick together and stay strong. Don’t ever let anybody take your living away from you, because if you give them a chance to do it, they’ll do it.”
Josh, Shopping Safeway Until Strike is Over!
“I came here to Safeway to support the King Soopers workers because everybody deserves a fair wage. Got some last minute flowers for Valentine’s. I usually would go to King Soopers, but today I did not because I am not going to cross the picket line. Support your local workers, and again, everybody deserves a living wage and a fair wage.”
UPDATE: Workers win against bogus company restraining order!
On Friday, a Denver judge largely rejected King Soopers’ union-busting attempt to silence workers on the picket line. The attempted restraining order tried to limit picket lines to six workers, prevent strikers from using heaters, and stop interactions with customers. The judge ruled that the UFCW Local 7 strike has been peaceful, and called King Soopers’ claims “hearsay.”
The judge did uphold that picketers cannot create structures, like tents, and cannot physically obstruct trucks from making deliveries (but CAN verbally ask them to turn around).
