Who’s the highest authority at YOUR union?

In the last few days the United Auto Workers union (UAW) has rocked corporations and workers by announcing HISTORIC gains for members after strategic strikes and public pressure campaigns.

Now, just a few hours ago, UAW announced “stunning” increases for GM workers, suspending the union’s coordinated strike against 3 major automakers.

What started this juggernaut of HUGE wage increases for hundreds of thousands of working people? 

1 MEMBER 1 VOTE

That’s right. Once they won 1 member, 1 vote less than 18 months ago, UAW workers’ voices became the loudest and most influential power in their union. 

And it shows! Autoworkers and other members of UAW are now top dogs at their union. And when members are top dogs it means:

• NO top union officials hobnobbing with CEOs and making backroom deals

• NO uncoordinated, shop by shop contract negotiations

• NO union officials and staff telling workers to sit down and shut up when they demand a bigger say and a DEMOCRATIC union. 

• NO union officials requiring workers to fund their own strike pay for the first week when the International is hoarding money. 

• NO overlooking organizing opportunities or chances to build more power with new members. 

Workers should be the highest authority in ALL unions. We should be working for dues-paid staff and officials, not the other way around. That's how we win big like UAW!
