What is Strike Readiness?

Eric Marcuz, a rank and file member of UFCW Local 8 and union activist in local reform group “At What Cost” shares what we mean when we talk about strike readiness. Watch and share the video here.

What does it mean to be strike ready? It means your members have a strong understanding of what the strike process looks like, and they’ve been geared up, trained, educated, and are confident in their power to strike.

One thing you’ll notice in a strong, strike ready local is First Day Strike Pay. A lot of members don’t know what they’re going to make financially while they’re on strike. If you want a strong, powerful, member-driven union, members need to know they have access to First Day Strike pay, and they need to know what that strike pay is in dollars.
