IATSE Workers Establish Reform Caucus

The International Association of Theatre and Stage Employees (IATSE) are what make our concerts, movies, and shows run smoothly. Their work lets us enjoy our entertainment without a hitch. They work tirelessly behind the scenes making our special events possible. Where the glitz and glamor often overshadow the labor struggles that persist behind the scenes, a new development in Hollywood has emerged with the formation of a reform caucus within IATSE.

The Caucus of Rank and file Entertainment Workers (CREW) came together after the WGA & SAG-AFTRA strikes ended to capitalize on public support and momentum. Workers saw these unions win big gains for actors and workers and knew they needed a powerful revitalized union to do the same. In particular, CREW wants to end an “electoral-college style” system to ratify contracts that don’t respect the will of the majority. 

CREW, like Essential Workers for Democracy, are following in the same footsteps as Teamsters and the UAW, as a resonant example of workers asserting power.. We stand firmly in solidarity with CREW and workers everywhere asking more from their union. Whether it is the cashier helping you get your weekly groceries, the bakery worker putting the finishing touches on that birthday cake, or the stage hands behind our favorite shows, workers deserve the best out of their union.
